A couple of weeks before the December 2021 holidays, I attended a four day TOGAF training course. It was my introduction to Enterprise Architecture. The content was relatively interesting, and a very new perspective on things for me. I have always been involved in the nitty-gritty - creating reports, deploying dashboards, optimising code, implementing ETL. To think about the architecture rather than the actual construction was…refreshing.
The actual Open Group framework we studied doesn’t sit that well with me. I’m not sure TOGAF itself is a good approach to EA, but the discipline of EA is very important for a modern business. I am hoping to pursue this more - maybe I can look to becoming a Data Architect this year? I need to do some more studying and talking to a few colleagues.
I’ve looked to LinkedIn to see what the DA job positions require. Most of them seem to want many years’ experience as an EA, working with cloud platforms, and some other technical skills that are certainly not in my repertoire. I will need to focus if this is what I want to pursue. However, with Youi’s entire cloud development team resinging in the past six months, getting experience building thigs in the cloud will be tricky, especially related to data architecture.
