A bit of a slow, distracted week
Working from home is difficult when your work is not that engaging. I admit, a fair bit of time at home spent playing Metroid:Zero Mission and Don’t Starve Together. Both games have very interesting puzzles.
As for my actual work, well a lot of dealing with standard tickets again. We failed over our SQL Data Warehouse on the weekend to help with some hardware issues. That caused its own issues which we were dealing with most mornings - slow reports, jobs failing, etc.
We had set up Service Broker to allow other departments to create their own steps to run each morning, but we’ve found that the jobs are written inefficiently and are hogging too many resources, so I’ve spent a fair bit of time this week moving those service broker jobs in one database to another schema and our proper nightly process. This gives us more visibility, more opportunities to help them, and better error handling.
Again, for our long-term projects we’ve talked about data cataloguing and classification. It’s a good goal, but it’s hard to know where to start.
